Life moves fast - it feels like just yesterday I was layering sweaters and sleeping with, like, 4 blankets. Although the official first day of summer is still a few weeks away, the summer weather refuses to wait - I'm sure we've all felt the heat these past few days.
Naturally, we look to street style stars like Kylie and Kendall Jenner for summer outfit inspiration, and of course, they always deliver. The newest addition to the KENDALL + KYLIE line is a collaboration with Ardene, which hasn't dropped yet (soon!) but you can totally start planning your shopping list now - so you're ready, you know? I actually had the honor of checking out a sneak peek of this collab at their launch party, and I got some major inspiration.
So let's talk trends - as you can imagine, lots of the Spring 2018 trends are carrying on into the warmer months, but there's a couple of new trends that are going to be everywhere.
This is a Spring trend that is still going strong and shows no signs of slowing down. While most sunglasses provide a coolness boost to a summer look, tiny sunglasses add a level of interest to an outfit - plus, they photograph so well because they don't hide the face underneath.
Another spring accessory that will move forward to summer, straw accessories are so simple and aesthetically pleasing. They embody a vintage vibe while still being light and summery. What's not to love?
Mesh won't stop! I'll just warn you now that mesh will continue to be huge throughout the summer AND the fall, according to FW18 shows... like check out this look (above) from Cushnie et Ochs.
But I digress - summer mesh will be seen in bralettes, crop tops, paneling on dresses and almost everything else. Mesh is a great layering tool, so if you're looking to sport some but you're worried about showing too much skin, try pairing it with solid tops and tanks, whether on top or underneath. Personally, I wear solid black tank tops over my short sleeve mesh top and it looks adorable.
Personally? So down for this trend. Overalls are comfortable and so versatile regarding what you can wear underneath them. Honestly, you can wear them with nothing underneath, to bras, tank tops, and all the way to sweaters. It's a perfect option for a casual outfit when you have no clue what to wear. To those of you who are rolling your eyes, don't be so quick to judge, I'm expecting a lot of cute overalls to start rolling out.
AKA fanny packs! These tend to pop up every summer for festival season, but this summer they're cuter than ever, and some really look high-end! On the left, you can see the KENDALL + KYLIE rendition of the summer belt bag.

I know that some of you who have previously sworn off ever sporting a belt bag might be looking at these and thinking that maybe it's time to give them a chance. Who doesn't love a multi-purpose trend? These bags hold the contents of your purse AND hold up your pants. It's hands-free, the straps won't get stuck to your shoulders (because there are no straps), and they look adorable.
GOLD AND YELLOW HUES:
Moving on to summer color schemes. Obvious summer favorites are gold and yellow, and while some may argue that these colors are popular year-round, I suggest wearing them on a bright, sunny afternoon and notice the way that gold sparkles even more so than usual, and yellow just fits in so perfectly with the summer sun. I'm sure you'll be sold on it.
Another note: Silky camisoles are a great layering piece to invest in.
They can be worn alone or over tees in the summertime, and then transitioned easily to colder temperatures. Plus, they make an outfit look way more luxurious.
PASTEL AND GELATO HUES:
You know how gelato (and let's be real, all ice cream) is a summer staple that is both delicious and aesthetically appealing? So much so that it makes for a perfect Instagram? Talk about a summer mood. This trend is going to be huge in swimwear, naturally, but pastel dresses are gorgeous as well, and an unexpected way to add a subtle burst of color to your summer wardrobe.
With the summer heat already going strong (and showing no signs of slowing down), the best thing to do on those hot days is to wear light fabrics, meaning both physically light and light in color. White fabrics tend to be thinner and lighter generally, which makes them a great fashion choice for the summer, while also keeping you a little cooler when the weather threatens to cook you alive. (Dramatic? Me? Never.)
There are very few things better than when lazy clothes become fashionable. Like how leggings and sweatpants are trendy because of athleisure (amazing). Furry slides will continue to be an extra essential, and slides with studs, metallic accents, and color blocking will be seen everywhere. Once the KENDALL + KYLIE x Ardene collection drops, you can shop them from Ardene!
There you go! Your summer shopping list is sorted out. If you're excited about the drop and want to be the first to get your hands on it, check out Ardene's website for the newsletter!
